Geo expansion strategies can scale a company to the next level, but they can also quickly drive a company to financial distress. Before even considering geo expansion, ensure you have the prerequisite of a killer value proposition and go-to-market strategy to beat out the competition in a new geo. As you develop a geo expansion plan, do it in the broader context of the overall company strategy, since it will siphon off critical resources from other potential value-driving strategies. And, if you decide to expand geographically, allocate enough resources and time to win in the new geo(s).
